This file contains the minutes and agendas for the various meeting of Triathlon Association of Queensland for the years 1988-89. These meetings document the formation and the earliest appointments of the Triathlon Association of Queensland. It begins with a steering committee for an active state triathlon association, headed by Barry Hawkins and Mal Shinn. Several meetings of Queensland Triathlon Association (Q.T.A.) are included, before it was superseded by the formation Triathlon Association of Queensland.

Of special note is a letter of legal advice from Dr. M. B. Shinn from August 1989 (pp.10-14). Dr. Shin was working as an Associate Professor at Bond University School of Law at that time. He also held the position of secretary for the Triathlon Association of Queensland. He has worked as a GP on the Gold Coast for many years. Dr. Shinn is mentioned in this article ‘Bond Law School: Reflections on the First Ten Years’.

The minutes of the meeting held on 2 July 1989, outline the formation of TAQ committees additional to the already formed committees of sanctioning, constitutional and appeals. The new committees include coaching, medical, development, selection and women’s.

Dr Hunt used these documents in her research for the book Multisport dreaming: The foundations of triathlon in Australia published in 2014.
