[Extract] Senator Alston introduced draft legislation in the Senate on 21 April (the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Online Services) Bill 1999). The Bill has been the talking point of the Internet community ever since. Some of the debate has been covered in the popular press. The Government seems to be intent on pushing the Bill through Parliament as quickly as possible. However, there is fierce opposition to the Bill (discussed in more detail below).
