As we near the final stage of the rollout of the Australian Government’s 65 Family Relationship Centres across the country, it is an opportune time to ask the non-rhetorical question ‘Am I strong enough?’ Family mediation has metamorphosed into FDR (family dispute resolution), a clever, deliberately generic definition which encompasses an array of non-adjudicative processes. This ‘pracademic’ commentary examines various aspects of the new family law system and explores some considerations so that we might reflect on where we are and where family dispute resolution may be going from 2008 onwards.
