Originally trained as a primary teacher, Norm Barling studied and later taught psychology at Melbourne Teachers College and the University of Ballarat.
Upon joining Bond University he continued his research, teaching and clinical interests, principally clinical and health psychology. He is also a hypnotherapist and a member of the Australian and International Societies of Hypnosis.
