Maria joined Bond University in 2006 following 20 years' lecturing at the University of Teesside in North East England. During her career, Maria has taught a wide range of business communication related subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her subject specialism of Public Relations has developed from a teaching and research background in marketing communications and she earned a Master of Science (with Distinction) in Public Relations from the University of Stirling in 2004. She also has a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Hertfordshire and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Humanities from the University of Teesside. Maria has a keen interest in developing Public Relations education and she is a full member of both the Public Relations Institute of Australia and the UK Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Maria's research interest is into sports public relations which means that her work is recognised by the disciplines of both public relations and sports management. She has published in Corporate Communications: An International Journal, The International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship, Sport Marketing Europe and in leading edited texts in the sports marketing field. Maria is a regular conference presenter at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, the Sports Management Association of Australia and New Zealand and the European Association for Sport Management.
