Abstract

The class action complaint in Leeman v NHL (NHL Complaint) 1 filed recently against the National Hockey League (NHL) in the United States District Court is the latest development in the American ‘concussion crisis’, a label first used by investigative journalists and enthusiastically adopted by the media to capture the attention of the American public.2 This paper summarises the allegations against the NHL and the claims of fraud, negligence and misrepresentation in the management of concussion within professional ice hockey.
