Australia is a signatory to a number of international agreements providing for the reception and protection of refugees. The "Pacific Solution", which involved the offshore interception and processing of asylum seekers, represented a significant departure form the norms of international law. The contributors to this volume investigate and highlight the parameters for the restriction of the inflow of claimants to refugee status
