In the post Cold-War globalized world, Australian diplomats are entering into unchartered waters. At a strategic level, Australia's domestic and foreign policy priorities-including climate change, regional and global security and economic stability-are increasingly global in nature. At the same time, the international geopolitical order is undergoing profound change. The rise and rise of China, the emergence of India and the corresponding decline in the unchallenged paramountcy of the USA are powerful factors challenging the foundations of the international order. Such changes could signal the end of the Western liberal order, so how should Australia prepare? This case finds out.
