Abstract
In Australia there has been recent debate surrounding the notion of double jeopardy. Developments in forensic science, police investigation techniques and attitudes towards the needs of victims, have contributed to the discussion. This article outlines reasons for and against changes to the rule and gives examples of similar cases in the United Kingdom and United States.
The National Legal Eagle is a periodic publication by the Law Society of NSW for young people generally, and particularly high school students involved in legal studies classes and extracurricular activities such as Law Week, Schools in Parliament and the Mock Trial competition between high schools.
