Welcome to the 4th newsletter for the Bond University Centre for Professional Legal Education. My name is Rachael Field and I am a Professor of Law in the Faculty and Director of Research in the Centre.
As a University Research Centre, the CPLE has ambitious goals for building the research and scholarship profile of Bond Law in the academy. Our vision is to support and encourage our members to engage in legal education scholarship and research projects, and to achieve high quality and impactful research outputs. The Centre is only in its first year but already we boast an active group of 30 researchers who are producing monographs, journal articles and conference papers in diverse areas such as teaching critical thinking, threshold concepts and dispute resolution to law students, law school curriculum and assessment design, Australian legal education discourses, law student psychological well-being, academic resistance to legal regulation and reform and clinical legal education.
The Centre already hosts two journals – the well-respected, long-running Legal Education Review (LER) and the new Australian Journal of Clinical Education (AJCE). A new Dispute Resolution journal is also being planned as part of an expansion of research activity in the Dispute Resolution Centre - which is currently an important component of the CPLE.
Our plans for the future include building a vibrant cohort of legal education HDR students, launching the Centre website, and holding the first annual CPLE conference in 2017.
