A separated father faces allegations of sexually abusing his son. This chapter provides a detailed account of the visit by child protection officers, the allegations made and the immediate outcome. The conclusion considers some of the reverberations that arose from this event. In particular, the author offers a reflection on the nature of the special challenges that face fathers as opposed to mothers, an exploration of the nature of abuse and finally, the delicate and difficult act of balancing concern for those that might be abused and those that might be falsely accused of abusing others.
