Abstract

The large-scale development by Trump Golf Scotland will potentially position the North East of Scotland as a new entrant into the global premier golf marketplace. This research adopted a qualitative approach involving a focus group and interviews. The focus group comprised of representatives from Trump Golf Scotland and the subsequent interview stage comprised of stakeholders' based in the Aberdeen area. Results suggested the majority of the sample were in favour of the development with research concluding that the economic benefits outweighed environmental concerns. However, negative social impacts were identified as: stakeholder conflict, the potential for a tourist enclave and dilution of Scottish culture.
